The South African trio of Tashreeq Matthews, Keanin Ayer and Luke Le Roux have secured their Swedish Allsvenskan spot for next season.
This comes after Varbergs BoIS emphatically beat Osternds 4-0 in the league on Sunday evening.
The Club made history last season by gaining promotion to the Swedish top-flight for the first time in their history after a year of playing in the country’s lower tiers. This past weekend’s result took Varbergs to 11th place on the log with 34 points secured after 28 games.
Lower placed Falkenberg and Helsingborg sit on 23 and 22 points respectively with only two games left in the regular season and even if Varbergs BoIS lose the remaining two games they will still be safe.
Matthews signed with the club in January and has played 16 league games so far. The winger has assisted two goals while scoring one goal in the league this season. Ayer joined the club from Ghanaian Academy Right to Dream Academy in 2018 and has since played over 60 games for the club while former Amajita captain Le Roux joined the team in February and played 21 league games in his first season in Europe.
Ayer and Matthews both featured in the resounding 4-0 away victory and Le Roux missed out. The former SuperSport United midfielder is currently back in South Africa to renew his passport papers and with only two games left in the league the 20-year-old will probably return to Scandinavia for the next season.
The new boys will be relieved to be going into Sunday’s encounter with log leaders Malmo having already secured safety and coach Joakim Persson will look to rest some of his regular players to give more minutes to players like Matthews who has mostly been used as a squad player and coming off the bench for the majority of the season.
