SA U17 coach plays blame game

SA U17 coach Vela khumalo has blamed the lack of preparation for the embarrassing 7-0 defeat to Zambia in the COSAFA Men’s U17 Championship on Monday.
It was Amajimbos’ second defeat in the competition after losing 3-0 to hosts Malawi in their first Group A match on Sunday.
Khumalo says the defeat was a big lesson for the team.
“Congratulations to the Zambians, I am actually not happy with the score margin, we could have done better,” Khumalo reflected.
“Any coach would understand that conceding seven goals you will not be happy about it even though you are playing a team that has been assembled for a long time when we actually had one session to prepare. But that’s not an excuse.
“We were playing a very good team. They have been in camp since May and we only assembled the team on the 2nd of October. It’s a lesson, this is part of learning,” he said.
Khumalo added: “So we only need to go back and work on them mentally to make them forget about the defeat. We are really not here to bring the results, the results are a bonus to us but we will deal with their mental ability now.”
Amajimbos will now face Eswatini in their final group tie tomorrow at Kamuzu Stadium at 14:00.
