Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Edelbert Dinha has insisted Zimbabwe should sack Zdravko Logarusic and rope in a more capable coach ahead of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Croatian coach, Logarusic, came under fire after the Warriors crashed out of the Cosafa Cup as the bottom team in their group last month.
For the first time in over two decades, the Warriors suffered back-to-back defeats at the Cosafa Cup. The Warriors crashed out of the regional tournament, which they have dominated in the past, without a victory in their four group matches.
Dinha, a former international, pulled no punches when expressing his disappointment at the Warriors’ show of shame.
“The game against Senegal, I didn’t even watch it. I was so angry. It was pathetic. We knew about Cosafa, but did you [the coach] research?
“Yes, we qualified for Afcon, but where are we heading?” Dinha told FARPost.
In 12 outings, the Warriors, under the tutelage of Logarusic, have won just ONE game, lost SEVEN matches and drawn four others.
“12 games and one win, we can’t give a job to someone like that. He can’t lead the team. It has to stop. We could be way far [under a more capable coach],” he said.
Dinha, who was a member of 2006 Afcon squad, said what further upset him was that Zimbabwe had more accomplished coaches.
“Do you know what pains me, it’s the people that selected that coach? You have Norman Mapeza and Calisto Pasuwa who are both better coaches,” he said.
Logarusic is left with five months on his contract and it remains unclear whether Zifa will renew his deal with just four months left before the Afcon finals set for Cameroon early next year.
