Krepin Diatta has heaped praise on Sadio Mane saying he is a role model for all Senegalese footballers.

The new AS Monaco acquisition has already started life at Stade Louis II Stadium and made two league appearances in the red and white colours of the former French champions.

Diatta made his debut in a 3-1 win against Olympique Marseille before getting his first Ligue 1 start in a 2-1 win last weekend against Nantes.

After three years in Belgium, the 21-year-old switched the Jupiler Pro League for Ligue 1 as he continues his rise in Europe. Monaco have a project that aims to get take the club back to the top in France and Diatta is one of a few players who have been brought in to make that dream a reality.

Sadio Mane is one of the best players in the world and the Monaco winger had nothing, but praise for the Liverpool star.

“He is a big brother. We are very close. I speak to him daily, he inspires me a lot. He is someone who I look to as an example, but I would also like to write my own story. He is an example for all young Senegalese players. Sadio is really the perfect role model for us,” he told Monaco’s official website.

Diatta continued to speak about his objectives at the club and how the training sessions have been like since his arrival.

“I think every player has personal goals. But I would like to be part of the club’s goals, because I’m coming to AS Monaco in the middle of the season. I’m an attacking player so it’s normal that I think I want to score and provide assists. But above all, I want to help the team to go as high as possible.

“I experienced the same in Bruges. Everything is done through working hard on a daily basis. AS Monaco are a club that wants to aim higher, so it makes sense that the training sessions are so intense. I like this.”

The club’s sporting director Paul Mitchell said the attacker is a long-term solution and brings a lot of quality to the dressing room.

“The arrival of Krépin Diatta is good news for the team in the short term, but he is also a long-term investment. He is a player who has played more than 100 matches in his young career and who is already a Senegalese international.

“When we analysed his performances, we found that he is a very intriguing player in terms of his dribbling, in his work rate, in his lack of selfishness.”
