Highlands Park captain Tapuwa Kapini believes Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands has done well this season and doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
Sandilands reclaimed his number 1 spot at Pirates after missing only three games at the beginning of the season and he is in the top five of goalkeepers with the most clean sheets in the Absa Premiership this season.
The Pirates shot-stopper has eight clean sheets under his belt in 20 League games, three behind Ronwen Williams of SuperSport United who has the most clean sheets in the League with 11.
“Wayne Sandilands has been brilliant for Orlando Pirates, but somehow people are not talking about him,” Kapini told SuperSport.com. “Since he took over from Joris Delle, he has done a good job,” added the Zimbabwean goalkeeper.
“Even my teammates, Thela Ngobeni and Marlon Heugh have performed well. Unfortunately, Ngobeni got injured and Heugh stepped in, and he excelled.”
Kapini says most of the goalkeepers in the Absa Premiership have been outstanding. “Look at a guy like Elvis Chipezeze at Baroka FC. He has been doing well despite his team being in the relegation zone. He has been saving them week in, week out,” he said.
You cannot leave out Daniel Akpeyi at Kaizer Chiefs. He has been impressive filling Itumeleng Khune’s big shoes,” concluded the 35-year-old former AmaZulu and Platinum Stars player.
