Phillippe Sandler has made his first start for France Ligue 1 side, Estac Troyes.
The Manchester City loanee was given his first league start as Troyes faced Olympique Lyonnais on Wednesday night.
He started on the left side of a three-man defence alongside Jimmy Giraudon and Karim Azamoum who were the usual pairing in a 4-4-2 formation.
Sandler played 58 minutes, but couldn’t help Troyes avoid a 3-1 defeat against a rampant Lyon side.
French midfielder Xavier Chavalerin gave the visitors the lead in the 45th minute.
New recruit, Xherdan Shaqiri lashed onto a beautiful ball by Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and slotted home the equaliser just three minutes into the second half.
Italian left back Emerson Palmieri gave the home side a well-deserved lead in the 72nd minute before Lucas Paqueta sealed all three points with a beautiful strike in the 87th minute of the clash.
The loss sees Troyes drop to 17th place on the table with seven points from the first seven league games of the season.
Sandler is on loan from English champions Manchester City as he looks to continue his development while playing regular top-flight football.
He joined the Citizens from Dutch Eredivisie side PEC Zwolle in 2018, but he has not been able to establish himself as a regular starter under Pep Guardiola.
Although he had a full pre-season with City, the 24-year-old opted for a temporal move away from the Etihad Stadium.
