Thamsanqa Sangweni has joined the growing list of players that have been released by Chippa United, after the arrival of Gavin Hunt.
The Empangeni-born midfielder’s contract expired last month and it has not been renewed.
It was evident when he was not part of the pre-season camp in Cape Town, where Chippa United will play friendlies against Cape Town City, Cape Town Spurs and Caoe Town All Stars.
Sangweni rejoined the Chilli Boys midway last season and featured in most of the games as he helped the Eastern Cape side avoid relegation.
The 32-year-old midfielder was trusted by Vladislav Heric and Lehlohonolo Seema in most of the matches towards the end of last season.
Sangweni featured eight times for the club in all competitions last season after rejoining in February.
Sangweni has also played for AmaZulu, Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, Ajax Cape Town, Maritzburg United and Richards Bay.
His departure from the club means he joins the likes of Oupa Manyisa, Anthony Laffor and Mlungisi Mazibuko, who have all left the Gqeberha-based side.
