Banyana Banyana star Jermaine Seoposenwe has won her first piece of silverware in Portugal.
This is after she led SC Braga to a 3-1 victory against SL Benfica on Tuesday night.
This was the second cup final meeting between the two giants after Benfica convincingly won the Portuguese League Cup final 3-0 last week Wednesday.
Six days later Braga have gotten their sweet revenge in a bigger competition and Seoposenwe was at the centre of it all with a beautiful brace on the night.
The 27-year-old was named the Woman of the Match and played the entire 90 minutes for the newly crowned champions.
Braga showed hunger from the first whistle and it came as no surprise when they opened the scoring through Hannah Keane just eight minutes into the game. For the rest of the first half the visitors controlled the game and protected the lead as the hosts tried several times to level matters going into the break.
Seven minutes into the second half Nycole Silva Sobrihno scored her second goal in two consecutive games against Braga. She levelled matters for the hosts as they started growing more and more into the game.
However, Seoposenwe had other ideas as she put the visitors ahead with a fine drive from outside the box. It was a goal to remember for the former Real Betis star. She received the ball, dribbled past a defender and hit a rocket into the top right corner to put Braga in the driving seat again.
13 minutes later, the SA international completed her brace and sealed the victory for the visitors who held on to win the Portuguese Cup in convincing fashion against the giants who failed to do a double over them. This was her first silverware with the Portuguese club as she made history for being the first South African female footballer in history to win the Portuguese Cup.
It’s a well-deserved win for Braga who have had an incredible run in all domestic competitions and currently sit second in the league.
