Thulani Serero has been voted as the Best foreign midfielder in the Arabian Gulf League.
The South African had a wonderful 2020/21 campaign with newly crowned champions Al Jazira. He only missed two games this season as the Abu Dhabi-based side clinched their third league title in their history.
Since his return to the club, Dutch coach Marcel Keizer has built the team around the 31-year-old playing him in the defensive midfield role.
The 52-year-old built on a legacy of Dutch success at the club, becoming the second Dutchman to win the league title at Al-Jazira after Ten Cate, who won it in the 2016/17 season. The title race was decided on the last game of the season
Al Jazira needed a draw while second-placed Baniyas needed a win to lift the title.
Baniyas lost against Al Warda which guaranteed Al Jazira the title.
This is Serero’s second season with the club and he has made 38 appearances since arriving from Vitesse in 2019.
Since leaving Ajax Cape Town in 2011, Serero has now won four league titles. He won the Dutch Eredivisie three times with Ajax Amsterdam.
