Inter Milan sealed a memorable comeback victory to beat rivals AC Milan 4-2 showing character after going into the half-time break 2-0 down in the Milan derby at San Siro.
Antonio Conte’s turnaround masterclass started 5 minutes into the second half after Ante Rebic and Zlatan Ibrahimović had put Milan 2-0 up at the break.
Brozovic, Mattias Vecino, De Vrij and Romelu Lukaku were all on the scoresheet ensuring that Inter move top of the Serie A table with 54 points, level with Juventus, who lost 2-1 at Hellas Verona on Saturday.
Inter are ahead of Juve on goal difference.
This was Inter’s 4th consecutive Serie A win against Milan for their first time since 1983.
Conte said: “It was certainly a special night.”
“We know what went wrong during the first half and we made the necessary changes. Everyone assumed their responsibilities and we all made it out of a tough situation united, succeeding in turning the game around in the second half. We must keep that in mind for the future,” added Conte.
“This match helps us to understand that we must use our heads before our legs. Playing with head and heart is often more important than mere running and the second-half result was down to that.
“On Wednesday, we have the Coppa Italia semi-final, while we will then face Lazio away from home,” concluded the former Chelsea mentor.
