Sphephelo Sithole is attracting a lot of interest in Europe.
The KZN academy graduate had a scintillating 2020/21 season with Portuguese Primeira Liga side SAD Belenenses where he established himself as one of the club’s key players.
According to Portuguese publication Abola, France Ligue 1 clubs LOSC Lille, FC Lorient and RC Strasbourg Alsace are all showing huge interest in signing the 22-year-old.
Belenenses are believed to be hesitant to release the youngster whose contract runs until the end of the 2023/24 season.
Sithole made 25 league appearances for the Lisbon-based side this season. He was primarily deployed in the defensive midfield role and tasked with shielding the defence and starting attacks.
This was his break through season in the Primeira Liga. Since arriving in January 2019, Sithole spent majority of his time with the club’s reserve side.
‘Yaya’ made his Belenenses debut at the end of the 2019/20 campaign coming on as a second half substitute in a draw against SC Braga.
He moved overseas in 2017 when he joined Sporting Lisbon from KZN academy. He later moved to Vitoria Setubal before joining Belenenses who gave him his first taste of first team football.
After getting a knee injury in pre-season, the bulky anchor managed to bounce back and fight for his place in the starting line-up.
