Sithole inspires Belenenses to victory

Sphephelo Sithole put in a Man of the Match performance on his first start in Portugal, while Sbusiso Shibane continued his fine form in front of goal.

KGAOGELO CHAUKE

 

It was a FA Youth Cup weekend in England and Southampton U18 called in all the experienced players within the development set up. Chauke played the whole 90 minutes and scored a beautiful goal from outside the box to round off a great beautiful performance for the ‘Young Saints’. 

The 17-year-old was also awarded the Man of the Match award for his dominant display on the day. 

DEAN FURMAN  

The Bafana Bafana anchor played the entire 90 minutes and laid the assist for the only goal of the game as Carlisle United defeated Bradford City 1-0 in the English League One. 

ETHAN CHISLETT 

Chislett came off the bench after 62 minutes for AFC Wimbledon as they lost 4-2 in a six-goal thriller against Bristol Rovers. 

KHANYA LESHABELA

  

After returning from his trip with the senior team who travelled to Ukraine to play Zorya Luhansk on Thursday night, Leshabela was drafted into the starting XI for the U23 side as they played Chelsea. The attacking midfielder played 90 minutes for the ‘Young Foxes’ as they narrowly lost 2-1 against Chelsea in a well fought duel at Stamford Bridge. 

SIYABONGA LIGENDZA 

Ligendza played the whole 120 minutes for Cardiff City’s U18 as they needed extra-time to overcome a stubborn Derby County. The ‘Young Bluebirds’ had to dig deep to win the game 3-2 in extra time and Ligendza was a consistent thorn up front. 

KOBAMELO KODISANG

 

Braga B is on a roll in Portugal defeating every opponent in front on their way and South African U23 international winger Kodisang is one of their key players upfront. The 21-year-old played another 90 minutes as Braga B defeated Mirandela 3-0 in the Campeonato de Portugal. 

SIBUSISO SHIBANE 

The striker continued his form with a beautifully taken goal and laid an assist as well in Agueda’s emphatic 5-2 win against Valadares Gaia. This was Shibane’s fourth goal of the season for Agueda as he continues to push towards his target of 10 goals for the season. 

LUTHER SINGH 

Bafana Bafana winger Luther Singh lasted 73 minutes for Pacos de Ferreira as they let a one-goal lead slip against Benfica. The Portuguese giants went into the break trailing by a goal, but in the second half came out with a lot of intent and scored two goals to take all three points. 

THIBANG PHETE & SPHEPHELO SITHOLE

 

The South African duo was brilliant for SAD Belenenses against SC Braga on Sunday night. They both played the entire game as Belenenses got a well-earned 2-1 victory against at home in Lisbon. 

TASHREEQ MATTHEWS & KEANIN AYER 

Matthews got an early first half red card in the last game of the season against Djurgarden IF while Keanin Ayer played 61 minutes in his more favoured central midfield role as Varbergs BoIS lost 1-0 away. 

LIAM JORDAN 

The striker was introduced after an hour in HB Koge’s 2-1 win at home against Helsingor. The 22-year-old was the difference on the day as he netted the second goal for the hosts after 89 minutes to seal all the three points in the Danish 1st division. 

BONGANI ZUNGU

 

Zungu came on for the last 16 minutes as Glasgow Rangers continued their ruthlessness with a 4-0 drubbing of Ross County in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon. 

KEAGAN DOLLY

  

It was a tough day at the office for Dolly and Montpelier as they hosted champions Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday. PSG beat their hosts 3-1 and Dolly played 27 minutes of the game for Montpellier. 

RICARDO SCHUTTE  

Schutte was a late second half substitute for CD Mirandes as they drew 0-0 against Lugo in the Spanish Segunda Liga on Saturday night. 

REFILOE JANE

The ever-solid midfield maestro played another 90 minutes for AC Milan as they beat rivals Fiorentina in the Italian Serie A to cement their position in the top half of the table. 

THEMBI KGATLANA

 

A second start for the attacker upfront for Eibar in the Spanish Primera Division. Kgatlana played the entire 90 minutes and assisted both of Eibar’s goals, but it was not enough to avoid a 4-2 home defeat against Deportivo. 

KURT ABRAHAMS 

Abrahams played 90 minutes for KV Westerlo as they continued their momentum with a 2-1 win against SK Lommel in the Belgian second tier on Sunday. Abrahams is now in top fitness condition and is building up to help Westerlo climb up in the log standings.
