Sneke pocket R10, 000 at Soweto Spectacular

Newcomers Sneke Chillers beat defending champions Aston Villa 5-4 on penalties to be crowned the 2020 Soweto Spectacular champions at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Soweto Campus Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The encounter in regulation time ended 2-2.

Villa who clinched the title back in 2018 won 2-1 against crowd favourites Khenza FC in the first semifinal while Mambas FC lost 2-1 against Sneke in the second semifinal of the day.

The champions Sneke walked away with R10 000 courtesy of Betway with the runners up Villa taking home R3 000.

Losing semifinalists received R1 000 each for their respective efforts.

I think this tournament is quite unique, you have 4 teams that play against each other with a bit of flair, there’s an allocated time to actually showcase their skills (spectacular hour),” Betway marketing manager David Rachidi told FARPost.

“And I think for us Betway as a brand, it is always nice to be involved in local football where players are earmarked and scouts actually find players so to be part of that journey is also quite fruitful for us.

”As a brand we benefited quite a lot from this (tournament). We engaged with our customers, teaching them about the platform, the app, helping them understand what Betway is about,” concluded Rachidi.
