SNWL springs back to life

The South African Football Association (Safa) have confirmed that the second edition of the National Women’s League will commence on Saturday, 24 April after a year of inactivity.

This season will be expanded to 14 teams following the promotion of the 2019 Sasol League National champions JVW and runners up Ma-Indies Ladies from Gauteng and Limpopo respectively.

The other clubs that will be participating in the 2021 Safa National Women’s League are defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Bloemfontein Celtics, Tshwane University of Technology, University of Johannesburg, University of the Western Cape, Tsunami Queens (Free State), Thunderbirds (Eastern Cape), Coal City Wizards (Mpumalanga), Durban Ladies (KwaZulu Natal), First Touch Academy (Limpopo), Golden Ladies (North West) and Richmond Ladies (Northern Cape).”

The league matches will be played every weekend until the 14th of November 2021.

Safa CEO Advocate Tebogo Motlanthe added that: “We are excited that the second edition of the SNWL will kick off this weekend after last year’s intended edition was completely wiped out by the covid-19 pandemic.”

“This second edition will be bigger and definitely better as we now have 14 teams. The competition is likely to be stiffer as all teams are raring to go.”
