The University of Western Cape (UWC Ladies) held Tshwane University of Technology (TUT Ladies) to a thrilling 2-2 in a Safa National Women’s League (SNWL) encounter at a packed TUT Main Stadium on Sunday.
Second-placed TUT Ladies needed a win to keep their title hopes alive as leaders Mamelodi Sundowns humiliated First Touch Ladies 11-1 to move nine points clear at the top of the table with only three games to go.
“We defended very badly today, two bad mistakes caused the two goals,” said a disappointed TUT Ladies coach Sipho Mabuza.
“Once we start scoring we start to be comfortable, that’s the problem, we are thinking that we have won the game, the game has to end in 90 minutes.”
Meanwhile UWC Ladies coach, Thinasonke Mbuli was quite pleased with her side’s second-half performance.
“We very pushed them. If you travel in the morning and you play in the afternoon you should be happy with this performance.”
In other results, Thunderbirds who are third from the bottom of the log standings shocked fifth-placed Coal City Wizards 4-3 at Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Saturday while bottom-placed Richmond Ladies suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Durban Ladies at Umziwabantu Stadium.
