Four South African youngsters were involved as Varbergs BoIS’s reserve team defeated Elsborg.
Ryan Moon, Keanin Ayer, Tashreeq Matthews and Dean Solomons all featured as Varbergs cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win in the Allsvenskan reserve league on Tuesday evening.
Matthews opened the scoring in the 43rd minute before Moon sealed the victory with a 59th minute strike. This was Moon’s first strike in a Varbergs t-shirt after recently signing a three-year deal with the club.
Solomons also made his first start since making the switch to the Allsvenskan side. The 22-year-old will be eager to hit the ground running after spending almost a year without a club.
Ayer and Matthews are currently serving a two match ban after being red-carded at the end of the 2020 campaign. Both youngsters will return to action when Varbergs host Djurgaden IF in match day three of the campaign.
On Sunday, the quartet missed the season’s opening game where the Swedish side drew 0-0 against Mjallby away from home.
Former SuperSport United midfielder Luke Le Roux was the only South African involved in that game. He played the last 19 minutes of the encounter as Varbergs earned their first point of the season. Last year, they finished their maiden season in 11th spot on the log standings.
Since making the move to Sweden at the start of 2020, things have been going well for the 21-year-old who has sealed his place in the starting eleven.
