In August 2017 many South African football die hards were surprised to hear that there is a South African youngster who signed for Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon.
The name of that midfielder is Sphephelo ‘Yaya’ Sithole – nicknamed after the Ivorian star, Yaya Toure.
Sithole is a big, mobile, strong and technically gifted player who started his journey years ago in uLundi, KwaZulu Natal.
The midfielder signed for Sporting Lisbon from the KwaZulu Natal academy in 2017 where he stayed until January 2018 when he decided to sign for rivals Vitoria Setubal explaining that his intention is to play first team football as soon as possible.
The midfielder would stay only for six months at the Lisbon club before moving across the city to join Belenenses in January 2019 where he played with the club’s B team upon arrival.
He has since been promoted to the first team of the club and now is working extra hard to get that all important first team debut.
With the season just starting the uLundi-born starlet will definitely be making his debut very soon.
FARPost.co.za will be keeping a close eye on the weekly developments at Belenenses to see how the player progresses.
