Bradley Grobler broke the record for most goals by a SuperSport United player when he scored the winner against Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday afternoon.
The 32-year-old striker (soon to turn 33) overtook the late Abram Raselemane by netting his 58th goal, and his tenth of the season in the league.
Christopher Katongo is the only other player to score 10+ goals in the opening 10 games of a season for their club, doing so in 2006/07 for Jomo Cosmos.
6 – Bradley Grobler has now scored in six successive #DSTVPrem games for the first time in his PSL career.
The 58 goals are broken down in the image below, with most goals coming in the league, and the rest scattered across different competitions.
Only Daine Klate (12) has scored more goals than him in the MTN8 in the PSL era, but no player has scored more MTN8 goals for a single club than Grobler.
While it is too early to predict how many goals he will end up with, it’s safe to say this should be his best goal scoring season yet. His previous highest was 14 league goals (2019/20), meaning he has scored more league goals in the last two seasons (24 in 37 appearances) than he did in the six-and-a-half seasons before that (17 in 109 appearances). He is aging well. Rumor has it Jamie Vardy has posters of Bradley Grobler in his room.
100 goal target
Beyond the SuperSport goals, Grobler has also found the net for other clubs and his country as well. He has been around for 15 seasons, though many of these were hampered by injury. He needs just nine more goals to reach his 100th overall, and that would be a fitting reward for his hard work.
The image below breaks down his striked by club, including his national team goals (Nb: other sources have him at six goals for Goztepe).
With 15 seasons under his belt, it’s been a very long career for Grobler. He has scored against 23 different teams in that time, but there are some teams that can’t stand the sight of Grobler, especially the Soweto giants.
9 – Grobler has scored more goals in his career against Kaizer Chiefs than he has against any other side (9). Orlando Pirates (8) and Bloemfontein Celtic (7) are next.
The other side he has haunted over the years is AmaZulu.
3 – Grobler has scored against AmaZulu while playing for three different clubs, the only club against which he has that record.
*He will be in action today against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Tshwane Derby (17:00).
