Stellenbosch will host Baroka in an Absa Premiership match at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Friday evening and coach Steve Barker has emphasised the importance of walking away with nothing but victories in their three upcoming encounters starting with Baroka.
Stellies thrashed Highlands Park 4-1 last weekend to register their biggest win at a time when they desperately needed three points to jump to 11th position in the league standings, just two points above the relegation zone.
“We will have to be on top of our game going into the next three fixtures. They are cup finals essentially and we have to approach it as such, we’re coming off a big win over the weekend. Hopefully, that can be a catalyst going forward,” said Barker.
Meanwhile, Baroka ended their six-match winless streak in the Absa Premiership when they beat arch-rivals Polokwane City 1-0 at home in what was a Limpopo derby last weekend.
Bakgakga are behind Stellies as they are placed 12th in the league standings which is a point above the drop zone and the newly appointed Baroka captain Elvis Chipezeze said that he has to keep clean sheets to give his side a chance of winning their encounters.
“As a goalkeeper I have to keep clean sheets because if you do you give your boys a chance to win the game. I am just happy I did that in the previous game. We are very positive but for now we are just taking it one game at a time, looking forward to our next matches because we just want to try and pick up as many points as we can said,” said the shot-stopper.
Both teams come into this game high on confidence after sealing victories in their previous games and will be looking to keep the momentum going.
Kickoff at 20h00.
