Stellenbosch have announced that Argentine playmaker Junior Mendieta has signed a permanent deal at the club having spent the 2020/21 season on loan from Club Atlético Lanús in his home country.
Mendieta had a decent first season in South Africa’s top-fight as he played a vital role in ‘Stellies’ quest to retain their DStv Premiership status as they finished in 14th place.
“After a season-long loan to the club, we’re delighted to announce that we’ve procured the services of Junior Mendieta as a Stellenbosch FC player,” reads the club statement.
“The Argentinian signs on a long-term basis. El Toro is officially.”
The 28-year-old made 23 appearances for the Winelands club last campaign scoring three goals and providing two assists.
Stellenbosch will hope the left-winger’s creativity can bring them better fortunes in front of goal in the upcoming 2021/21 season.
