Group C has been burst wide open after Sudan stunned the Black Stars of Ghana by a goal to nil in Sudan.
Mohammed Abdul Rahman’s additional time strike broke Ghanaian hearts and was enough to hand the hosts the victory in the return leg of the back-to-back games between the two countries.
This comes after South Africa defeated Sao Tome ePrincipe 4-2 at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Monday afternoon.
Ghana had come into this encounter with a 100% record having won all three of their games in the group, but now that record has been broken by this result.
Sudan controlled the game from the first whistle and would have had more goals if their attackers had converted some of the chances in both halves, but coach Hubert Velud will be a happy man.
The Black Stars still sit top of Group C with 9 points followed by South Africa with the same number of points then Sudan with 6 and whipping boys Sao Tome remain rooted at the bottom of the standings with no point after four games.
On match day 5 of qualification the top two nations in the group will now battle it out for top spot next year in March as South Africa host Ghana while Sudan will travel away to Sao Tome. Ghana will then host Sao Tome and Bafana Bafana will travel to Sudan – at this point anyone can qualify between the top three.
