Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer is convinced that his side is under no pressure to win against Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday night as ‘The Brazilians’ ‘need the points more than Pirates’ to push for the Absa Premiership title.
The Soweto giants will travel to Dobsonville Stadium to restart their league campaign against Sundowns tonight at 18:00 following a five-month suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.
With eight games remaining in the league, Sundowns sit four points behind leaders Kaizer Chiefs and Zinnbauer believes the pressure is on Pitso Mosimane’ and his men to close the gap.
“We don’t have a big pressure. Sundowns have to fight for the title and need the points more than us‚” Zinnbauer told the media on Monday.
“We watched the game [Sundowns versus Bidvest Wits] and we have the information‚ we have analysed the squad.
“Pitso is a good coach‚ one of the best in this country. For us it is important we do what we do. We have prepared the team well and we will do our best to win points‚” added Zinnbauer.
Sundowns head into their clash against Pirates on the back of a tough 3-2 victory over Wits on Saturday and the German mentor says Mosimane might field a different team tonight.
“But Sundowns have so big squad with a lot of players and my feeling was Pitso will change and will give players like [Andile] Jali and [Tebogo] Langerman and other players‚ and maybe he saved the energy for us,” he said.
“I think Pitso [has] the system to change the players and I think we will get a completely [new] squad [on Tuesday].
“As I said earlier I came here to join Pirates in 11 or 12 place in the table and now we grow up and we have a good position now. For me, it is important that we prepare the team for next season. But we will fight for all points,” concluded the German coach.
