Mamelodi Sundowns have parted ways with veteran midfielder Tiyani Mabunda.
The hard-tackling midfielder arrived at Sundowns back in 2013 from Black Leopards and went on to win the 2016 Caf Champions League with the team and the Premiership title, among his achievements at Chloorkop.
Mabunda’s contract with Sundowns expired in June and the ‘Brazilians’ announced on Tuesday that the 33-year-old has left the club. The Tshwane giants posted an emotional video on their social media pages confirming the player’s departure after eight years at the club with close to 150 appearances to his name.
“When I came to this club, nobody actually really knew about me. It is a special journey that I have had with the club through thick and thin,” said Mabunda.
“The club has always been in support of me and my career. I also had to give my all regardless of whether I was in the field or not. I have always been a number one supporter of the club.
“I think it’s time for me to engage in another assignment. It’s not easy but every good thing does have an end,” the added the former Bafana Bafana international.
