Super League: Durban Ladies off the mark


Durban Ladies claimed their first of the 2020/21 Hollywoodbets Super League season after their hard-fought 3-2 win over Richmond United this past weekend in De Aar.

Despite registering their maiden win, Durban Ladies remain at the bottom of the log with three points from eight matches, while Richmond are eighth with 10 points.

Bloemfontein Celtic beat newcomers JVW Girls 2-1 win at the Dr Petrus Molemela stadium. With the win, Celtic move into fourth spot, equal on 16 points with JVW who dropped to third place from the same number of games.

Meanwhile, Ma-Indies returned to winning ways after hammering Golden Ladies 4-0 at home to move to seventh spot with 11 points, with Golden Ladies falling into third from bottom with six points.

Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Ladies are also on 16 points in fifth spot after their narrow 1-0 win over the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in Pretoria on Sunday.

UJ are in 10th equal on eight points with Coal City Wizards behind them. Wizards were held to a goalless draw by Thunderbirds Ladies at Sisa Dukashe stadium. This was the Eastern Cape side’s second point on the trot, however, they remain in 13th position with five points.

University of Western Cape (UWC) broke into the top three with their 3-0 defeat of Tsunami Queens as they moved to second spot with 17 points, two behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, though the defending champions have a game in hand. The result sees Tsunami in 11th position on the table with seven points.

Meanwhile, the clash between Sundowns Ladies and First Touch Academy was called off after most of the Limpopo side’s players reacted to fumigations at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday. The players were taken from the match venue by ambulances as some of them were also vomiting.
