SuperSport United have announced the departure of Evans Rusike and Lucky Mohomi.

The Tshwane giants decided against extending the duo’s contracts and will be released on June 30.

Mohomi moved to SuperSport from Mamelodi Sundowns to begin his fresh start. However, his 13 appearances in all competitions were not enough to convince ‘Matsatsantsa’, while Rusike spent three years at the club, winning the MTN8 title.

“SuperSport United FC would like to confirm the departure of Evans Rusike and Lucky Mohomi. We would like to thank Rusike and Mohomi for their contributions & wish them all the best for their future endeavors,” reads the club statement.

The pair will now start their search for a new club with Rusike already linked with a move to AmaZulu and former club Maritzburg United as per multiple reports.

“We can’t be accommodating players who seem happy to sit on the bench. On both players we elected not to take their options as they didn’t do enough to convince the coach they could cement their place in the starting line-up. We can’t be accommodating players who seem happy to sit on the bench,” once said Stan Matthews, SuperSport chairperson.

“We appreciate their contributions, especially that Evans made in helping us lift the MTN8 and in reaching three consecutive finals and we wish him well at his future club. We hope he too goes on to future success.”
