Newly promoted side Swallows FC have announced a list of its retained players for the 2020-2021 season, including captain Lebohang ‘Cheeseboy’ Mokoena upon their return to the Premiership division.
Under the leadership of Mokoena, 33, Swallows leapfrogged Ajax Cape Town to the top of the table, during the penultimate round of fixtures of the campaign, to win the second-tier league and gain automatic promotion to South Africa’s top-flight.
“Not only have we retained his [Mokoena] services but when his legs decide he can run anymore he will be more than welcome to join the technical team. Meaning, he is a bird for life,” said Swallows Chairperson David Mogashoa.
The former Orlando Pirates star will lead ‘The Dube Birds’ into the 2020-21 season along with former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Virgil Vries, Givemore Khupe, Tlakusani Mthethwa, Sanele Tshabalala, and Mthokozisi Shwabule.
The six players have been rewarded with new deals as the Soweto outfit look to keep the core of the GladAfrica winning squad for life in the top flight.
