Percy Tau is pleased to have scored his first goal in Brighton and Hove Albion colours.
The Bafana Bafana forward came off the bench and scored a beautiful solo goal as the Seagulls defeated Luton Town 3-1 in a pre-season friendly played at Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon.
Tau is undergoing his first full pre-season with the English Premier League side after coming back from a loan in Belgium midway through last season.
Speaking to the media after the game, the former Mamelodi Sundowns star said it felt great to score his first goal for Brighton.
“Yeah look, I’m quite pleased because it’s my first one for the club and then yeah, I’m so happy.”
He continued to explain how he managed to get past a few defenders before tucking the ball into the back of the net.
“I tried something and at the end of the day it worked out. I saw an opportunity that I could score and I tried to do something and it happened. It worked out pretty well.”
Tau is known for his unique celebrations and the Brighton fans got to witness his famous celebration for the first time this past weekend. He explained what inspired his current celebration which he has become known for in his native South Africa.
“Hopefully they’ll ( fans) see more of it. That’s the one, that’s my celebration.
“It’s a celebration from South Africa that I used to do in the church I used to go to in South Africa – I just twisted it a bit to make it a bit fun.”
Brighton continue their pre-season with a home game against Spanish La Liga side Getafe on Saturday night and the ‘Lion of Judah’ will be eager to put in another impressive performance.
