Tau’s situation at Brugge worrying

After sitting on the bench for yet another 90 minutes in Belgium last night, South African attacker Percy Tau’s situation at Belgian giants Club Brugge seems to be not good.

Tau hasn’t been getting some much needed game time recently having been benched for the most part of 2020 so far except starting a game against Charleroi in a league mid-week clash last week where he was eventually substituted in the 59th minute and hasn’t seen any game time before and beyond that.

The Bafana Bafana international, who has 4 goals and 7 assists in all competitions this season was once again left on the bench as Brugge beat Zulte-Waregem 2-1 and progress to the Croky Cup final with a 3-2 aggregate score.

In the recent transfer window Club Brugge signed Argentinian attacker Adolfo Gaich which made things worse for Tau and fueling the speculation that the club’s coach Philippe Clement has no plans to use the Bafana Bafana star for the remainder of the season.

Considering that next month Bafana Bafana will be competing in the crucial Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers, this is a worrying factor for the national team selectors as Tau is a very important member of the team.

With Brugge vying for a double this season, it remains to be seen if Tau will be getting much more frequent game time.
