South African defender Nikola Tavares has extended his contract with English Premier League side Crystal Palace by one more year.
After his initial contract ended at the end of last season defender was expected to make a move away from Selhurst Park, but it seems Roy Hodson still wants to keep Tavares in the side next season.
Speaking to FARPost the player’s agent Daryl Siaw explained this decision citing a few issues.
“Yes he will be staying with Palace for next season there are a few factors that had to be considered to make the call,” said Siaw.
“The player is currently injured so we want him to fully recover and the gaffer also wants to have a look at him for the first team. Nik had a lot of interest from abroad, but we felt this was the best decision for him,” he said.
Tavares has played for Crystal Palace’s first team in friendly games and has made the bench in the Premier League a few times in the past year, but is yet to make his senior debut for the ‘Eagles’.
“I am going to be staying at Palace longer, I’ve got to work on recovering from the injury. After recovery I will work a lot on my movement on the pitch to try improve my running and positioning on the pitch which I’m 100% sure I will improve. Just hoping for the best in what will be an important year for me as a player, but overall all is well god bless.” said Tavares
