News broke this week that coach Bonani Mantla was fired and released from his duties at Tede United FC, who are campaigning in the Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League.
Mantla, 39, hails from a small town called Peddie in Ndlambe Location. He had his notable coaching ranks at Chippa United where he was the Development Coach.
In the 2020/21 season, he was the head coach of Tede United and furthermore been moved to goalkeeper coach due to his experiences and goalkeeper coaching license.
During a training session, an altercation emerged which led to the coach being fired on the spot, Mantla confirmed to FARPost.
“I was fired at the training session on Wednesday last week just before the game against Highbury FC which was to be our fourth game of the league. We were doing a practical game plan at Bisho Stadium which is our home stadium,” he told this publication.
“There were two incidents where our striker and midfielder obtained just small injuries and our manager and the chairman, as well as our first aider, were sitting on the grandstand watching us conducting the session. Then the chairman felt that it is our responsibility as coaches to attend to the injuries while we were busy on the touchline of which it’s not our responsibility.
“The chairman sent down the manager to call us into order and I then answered as I and the coaches don’t hold any experience or designation to attend to player injuries physically, and eventually the chairman didn’t like my answer, he came down to fire me.
“Hopefully, I will get a team soon and I thank you for seeking the correct statement from me. I am a coach who sticks to principles and my job is to prepare and develop athletes for them to be ready to face the world of football.
“And on that note, I’m an inductive coach who value a human being hopefully soon I will be rewarded for that. I will continue to perform my duties and responsibilities as a coach when duty calls from to date going forward.”
The club currently sit 9th in stream A after four matches played with zero points. They will be playing home to Sibiya All Stars on Saturday, 10 April in an attempt to get their first three points of the season.
