Coach Kaitano Tembo has admitted he is dreaming of a victory over rivals Mamelodi Sundowns as SuperSport United find themselves positioned as underdogs ahead of Saturday’s Tshwane Derby at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.
The performances of ‘Matsatsantsa’ have been breathtaking as they have overwhelmed their opponents since the beginning of the new season with seven wins, a draw, and two defeats from their opening 10 DStv Premiership matches.
Sundowns on the other hand have also enjoyed a good start to the season as they are at the summit of the log standings with 24 points from 10 matches, followed by SuperSport in second place with 22 points.
Tembo understands a win against their arch-rivals will see them leapfrog the defending champions and claim the bragging rights while also bringing an end to Sundowns’ unbeaten run.
Sundowns have arguably the busiest schedule out of all the Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs this campaign but that didn’t stop Tembo from describing them as a “well-rested” team as they did not play during the week.
“One of those derby games where we have to dig deep in the derby. We are playing a well-rested team for that matter as well,” the ‘Matsatsantsa’ mentor.
“We will be ready to face Sundowns and win the derby. The players do not need any motivation for the derby.”
