SuperSport United head coach Kaitano Tembo says he has been impressed with former Bafana Bafana international Buhle Mkhwanazi, who is close to joining the club.
Mkhwanazi has been training with Matsatsantsa for over two weeks now as the two parties engage in a potential deal.
The 31-year-old has not kicked a soccer ball for over a year now following the sale of Bidvest Wits to then owner of Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (now Marumo Gallants), Masala Mulaudzi.
Mkhwanazi was left in limbo after Mulaudzi indicated at the time that they would not be able to afford his salary. The player has since taken the club to the PSL DRC over monies owed to him.
Speaking ahead of the MTN8 quarterfinal clash against Golden Arrows on Saturday, Tembo confirmed that Mkhwanazi is training with the club and looking good.
“Buhle is training with us and I think he has been doing very well,” said Tembo.
“He is a clean living, he is a professional and I was even surprised when I saw him at training, for someone who hasn’t played for a year he looks in a good condition. He is an experienced campaigner, as well as a Bafana Bafana international.
“So, we are looking for someone who will come in and help our young players like Keenan Phillips who is only 20. Luke Fleurs who is only 21, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe who is only 22, to give them guidance and direction which we really lacked last season,” he said.
“So, I just hope everything goes well and we will be looking forward to working with him.”
