The Absa Premiership reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns are linked with a host of players.
Over the past few months, it would appear that the Tshwane club management have been busy behind the scenes. Not only have we seen contract renewals of technical team including head coach Pitso Mosimane, who’s now on a 4-year deal, but also of players, including captain Hlompho Kekana.
Here are the players linked with a move to Chloorkop…
Kermit Erasmus (Cape Town City)
‘The Citizens’ striker appears to be the prime target for the Brazilians. “Kermit is always a good football player,” Mosimane was quoted recently. As things stand, Erasmus moving to Downs is a real possibility.
Edmilson Dove (Cape Town City)
We have previously reported on Sundowns’s interest in the Mozambican. According to FARPost sources, Downs are keen on Dove and Erasmus, but remains to be seen whether they would be able to bring both to Chloorkop.
Lesedi Kapinga (Black Leopards)
FARPost broke the news some months ago of Kapinga possibly joining the ‘Brazilians’ ahead of next season. Kapinga is in the last month of his contract with ‘Lidoda Duvha’ and indications are that Sundowns are well on course to snap him up.
Deon Hotto (Bidvest Wits)
Reports suggest that the Namibian is set to join rivals Orlando Pirates, but Sundowns are also keen, making it a two-horse for Hotto’s signature. ‘Bucs’ are in pole position, however Downs may have to dig deep to land the winger. Time will tell.
Thulani Hlatshwayo (Bidvest Wits)
The Bafana Bafana skipper is also a man in demand. The Sowetan has reported that ‘Tyson’ has agreed to join Pirates, but Sundowns and even Kaizer Chiefs, who may be affected by the transfer ban, have also expressed interest. If reports are anything to go by, Hlatshwayo would be a Buccaneer, but don’t write off Sundowns just yet.
Gift Motupa (Bidvest Wits)
The Limpopo-born striker has been linked with Sundowns for sometime now and he’s also on record saying he’s keen to play for the ‘Brazilians’.
Haashim Domingo (Bidvest Wits)
Domingo has emerged as an unlikely target for Mosimane’s side. The 24-year-old winger has starred in 32 games for the ‘Clever Boys’ during this campaign and netted three goals, in all competitions.
Thabang Monare (Bidvest Wits)
The midfielder has always been linked with Chiefs. As it turns out, however, there’s a good chance he may end up at Chloorkop, but Pirates are also thought to be after him.
Fahad Bayo (Vipers FC, Uganda)
Downs are believed to have joined the race to sign the Ugandan international, who plays for Vipers in his home country. Bayo is also on the wanted list of Azam FC of Tanzania.
Richard Ofori (Maritzburg United)
Ghana’s number 1 remains a target for Sundowns and with his contract with Maritzburg expiring on June 30, 2021 they may be forced to sell now rather than lose him for free as he would become eligible to sign a pre-contract with a club of his choice in January 2021.
