Thabo Cele has been getting some rave reviews in Portugal this season.
The midfielder has picked up form at Portuguese Segunda Liga side Cova di Piedade where he has been a regular this season. Last weekend, he was voted as the Man of the Match after an impressive performance in a 1-0 win against Benfica B.
Interestingly, he has refused to sign a new deal with the club as he sets his sights on earning a deal with one of the top-flight teams for the upcoming season.
In 2018, the 24-year-old signed a three-year deal with the Lisbon-based side and he has been continuing his development for the past two campaigns.
Local newspapers have been writing about the rise of the man from KwaMashu, KwaZulu Natal with his abilities on the ball catching the eye of the local media.
Speaking to this publication earlier this year, Cele said his dream is to make it in Europe and to achieve that, he has to continue working hard.
“I wouldn’t change where I am now for where I was before, it’s been great. I have met different people, got a lot of experience and made a lot of progress. Moving to different clubs has been huge for me because I’ve been learning and growing as a player and a man. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s worth every moment.
“The most important thing is to focus on the present, of course you have your own personal goals, but tomorrow is the consequence of today. I always say I will not go back to South Africa at the moment because I am where I should be. God has put me where I should be so I’m just trying to improve and work hard to get better and help my team.”
In 22 appearances this season, the South African has scored two league goals and assisted another two strikes. He has helped Piedade avoid the relegation zone. They sit in 13th spot on the table with 26 points from 26 games.
