Cranes head coach asked to step aside

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) executive committee has asked the head coach of the national men’s senior team Johnathan McKinstry to step aside from managing and coaching the team till the end of the month.

In the meantime, assistant coaches Mubiru Abdallah, Mbabazi Livingstone and goalkeeper coach Kajoba Fred will take over the team during this period. However, the rest of the technical team remains unchanged.

The team’s inconsistency seems to be the reason to put the Northern Irish football mentor on special leave. FUFA stated that this decision is an attempt to address the Cranes’ poor performances lately.

“FUFA will use this period to assess and monitor the performance of the team,” said the statement.

Uganda is set to face Burkina Faso and Malawi this month in a bid to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations due to be held in Cameroon.
