Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has accused referee Felix Brych of poor officiating after the Reds lost 3-1 against Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The German tactician was left frustrated after the game and blasted the match official saying he takes ‘personal’ decisions against winger Sadio Mane.
Mane hit the deck a couple of times in the encounter and the referee did not give any foul in favour of the Senegalese attacker. Klopp came out firing at the officials, unhappy with a series of decisions that went against the reigning Premier League champions.
One particular incident saw Mane brought down by last-man Lucas Vazquez, but play was allowed to continue and seconds later Marco Asensio had made it 2-0 after capitalizing on a defensive error by Trent Alexander-Arnold. To make matters worse, Klopp’s German compatriot Brych, showed Mane a yellow card three minutes later for tripping Vazquez.
“The situation with Sadio, what the ref did tonight I don’t understand.
“For me that was something personal because he dealt with the situation with Sadio, which was a clear foul, like he was a diver or whatever.
“From that moment on whenever Sadio went down he didn’t get anything. That is not right. That is what I told him after the game, that I thought he was unfair with Sadio.
Despite his unhappiness, Klopp continued to admit that his side was simple not good enough on the day and he welcomes the defeat.
“That doesn’t change anything at all. He didn’t lose the game.
“We were not good enough to get a better result, but in these moments you need just an ‘OK’ ref. That would have been enough.”
The return leg will be played on the 14th of April at the Anfield Stadium.
