Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler has challenged his striker Judas Moseamedi to work extra hard to earn a place in the final South African U22 squad to take part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Moseamedi was named in the provisional squad of 78 players by coach David Notoane.
The 26-year-old former Cape Town City striker is one of the many over-age players considered for the final 23-men squad. Notoane can only pick 3 over-age players in his final squad.
Other Maritzburg players included are defender Rushine De Reuck and striker Bongokuhle Hlongwane.
“Judas wasn’t catching game time at Free State Stars and now he finds himself in the provisional Olympics team. It’s fantastic to see their names there and they deserve it, especially Judas because he has worked extremely hard to get where he is now, “added Tinkler.
“I explained to him [Moseamedi] that it doesn’t end now. Now the work really begins. Now it becomes tough because they are really watching you.
“It’s a big provisional squad. So, to make that 22-men squad is gonna be tough, so he needs keep pushing now. Same as Rushine, “concluded the former Orlando Pirates coach.
The Olympics will take place in Tokyo, Japan from July 22 to August 8. The final 22-men squad should be handed to FIFA in July. SA U23 team will represent Africa together with Egypt and Ivory Coast.
