Togolese women’s football pioneer dies


The Togolese Football Federation (FTF) has sent its condolences to the Gblokpo family on the passing away of Togo women’s football pioneer, Komla Dzoboku Gblokpo.

He passed away on Monday, 24 May after a short illness.

The fallen icon was a member of the FTF Women’s Football Standing Committee.

“The memory of an ardent promoter of women’s football. With this death, Togolese football loses a pillar and an icon of the struggle for women’s football,” said the Federation in a statement.

Gblokpo was the first founder of a women’s football club in Togo, ‘Amis du Monde’. The side was crowned the champion of Togo on numerous occasions and the winner of many trophies in the sub-region.

According to the Confederation of African Football (Caf), ‘Amis du Monde’ was due to represent Togo during the WAFU-B zonal qualifiers of the maiden Caf Women’s Champions League, scheduled in Abidjan from 15 – 31 July 2021.
