Top 5 Angolan footballers abroad


In recent years the COSAFA region has seen a rise in the export of players to top European leagues to play amongst the best in the world.

The Angolan national team is one of the teams that is on the rise with most of their players moving to the best leagues in the world, some of these players are born overseas to Angolan parents while some are home grown talents who get overseas deals after turning 18.

FARPost looks at the top 5 current exports from Angola flying the county’s flag high in the top leagues around the world. 


Simply known as ‘Bastos’, newly signed Al-Ain defender Bartolomeu Jacinto Quissanga is probably the most experienced player in the Angolan national team locker room.

The 28-year-old was born in Luanda in November 1991 and has played in countries like Russia (Rostov) and Italy (Lazio) before recently making a switch to Saudi Arabia side Al-Ain. Bastos has represented Angola 51 times and has over 245 league appearances in the three countries he has played already. He is yet to make his debut in Saudi Arabia.


Aged just 18 Luvumbo is taunted as the future of Angolan football having shined in the domestic Girabola League with giants Primeiro de Agosto where he played 17 league games and scored 6 goals.

The winger has recently joined Italian Serie A side Cagliari where he is expected to start his journey in Europe. Luvumbo has 2 senior national team caps to his name already. His exploits with Angola’s junior teams where he led the U-17 side to the 2019 FIFA world cup made him one of the hottest properties in the African continent.


At the age of 23 most footballers dream of playing in Europe’s top 5 leagues, but the defender is already playing in the Bundesliga with newly promoted Arminia Bielefeld. He was born in Germany to Angolan parents and played for Germany at youth international level before deciding to represent the Southern African nation at senior level. 

On the 22nd of September this year Lucoqui was for the first time called-up for the senior national team. He made his debut on the 13th of October 2020 coming on as a 78th minute substitute in an international friendly against neighbours Mozambique. 


Maleko has been going through the ranks of German Bundesliga Eintracht Frankfurt over the past two years having joined them from Nuremberg back in 2017. The winger has recently been promoted to Frankfurt’s first team for the 2020/21 season at the age of 19. The attacker was born in Luanda before relocating with his family to Germany where he has been undergoing his development in the best structures. 


Jacinto Muondo Dala also simple known as Gelson Dala is one of the key players in Attack for the Angolan national team having made his senior team debut back in 2014 and having 25 senior caps to his name despite being 24 years old. Dala has scored 11 senior national team goals already in national team colours. A former Sporting Lisbon player the winger is currently playing for Portuguese Primeira Liga side Rio Ave having joined them from Sporting in the recent transfer window. 

In the past two seasons the attacker was sent out on loan to Turkish side Antalyaspor and his current team Rio Ave where his 6 goals in 14 league appearances earned him a permanent deal with the club.
