GladAfrica Championship side TS Sporting have announced the acquisition of former Bidvest Wits duo Kabelo Makola and Deon Horn, both on two-year deals.
Sporting publicised the news of their decision to sign the Wits youth development products, Makola and Horn on Wednesday morning.
Makola and Horn, both aged 20, impressed in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) Wits reserve team and were subsequently promoted to the first team under Gavin Hunt for the last 10 matches of the club’s existence in the 2019/20 campaign.
The ‘Clever Boys’ were sold to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) in June which meant some of the players have to find new homes.
“TS Sporting is delighted to announce the signing of Kabelo Makola from Bidvest Wits, who is also known as ‘Half Human Half Machine’. The 20-year-old winger has signed a contract with the club until 2022,” confirmed the Mpumalanga-based outfit.
“Horn, the 20-year-old left-back has signed a contract with the club until 2022.”
The pair was part of the Wits reserve side, who were leading the 2019/20 Diski Challenge with four points with two games remaining when it was cancelled.
Although Makola and Horn didn’t get an opportunity to play in the PSL Bio Bubble, they are have managed to secure deals in the second-tier league, following the unveiling of Thulani Hlatshwayo and Deon Hotto by Orlando Pirates on Monday ahead of the 2019/20 season.
Former Wits assistant coach Paul Johnstone said that he is pleased to see the club’s development products sealing contracts elsewhere.
“Happy to see another of our ex Bidvest Wits products finding a new home. All the best Deon,” he said.
Sporing escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth last season, and their supporters will be hoping for a much better 2020/21.
