Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies head coach Jerry Tshabalala was in an upbeat mood after learning their opponents in CAF Women’s Champions League draw that was held in Egypt this week.
The Cosafa Women’s Champions League winners were drawn against Rivers Angels of Nigeria, Vihiga Queens FC from Kenya and ASFAR Rabat Club from Morocco in group B.
Tshabalala described the draw as an exciting one as he believes that his side can challenge their opponents in the group.
“We are very excited, we find ourselves in a tough group B, it’s an exciting group. I’m really happy that we got Rivers Angels in our group, I’m also happy that we got Vihiga Queens from Kenya.”
“Fortunate enough I’ve managed to see their games that they’ve played during their qualifiers. The only closed book to us is ASFAR Rabat from Morocco,” Tshabalala said.
“We need to go out there and find out how they play and how they apply themselves. With Rivers Angels we know it’s a big and stronger team from Nigeria,” he stated.
“Basically it tells you that it’s gonna be a tough group, we are ready to go to Egypt and conquer Africa. If one wants to be the champion you need to play against the stronger opponents from Africa.”
“I’m not taking anything away from Vihiga Queens, they’ve got one of the best strikers Jentrix Shikangwa, so we are not just singling out any players, we are doing our homework we are ready for them,” added Tshabalala.
“We are looking forward to representing South Africa quite well, this is gonna be a nice tournament for us. Even for the girls to go out there and gauge themselves.
“How can I forget to thank the management with the support that they have given us, they’ve been behind us and supporting us.
“Also our supporters, Mamelodi Sundowns supporters, they’ve been looking forward to this tournament.
“On social media they’ve been buzzing, urging us to bring the glory home, we are not gonna let them down we’ll bring glory home,” Tshabalala concluded.
