Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau will continue rubbing shoulders with Europe’s elite after he was included in Club Brugge’s 23-man squad to face Manchester United in Thursday’s UEFA Europa League Round of 32, first leg tie at Jan Breydelstadion. Kickoff at 19:00.
Having already come up against Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League before, Tau keeps on facing giants in world club football.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns star returned to action for Brugge last weekend after missing three consecutive games.
Crucially on his return, he provided an assist for Brugge’s injury time winning goal in a League match against Waasland-Beveren after coming on as a substitute.
Against that backdrop, coach Philippe Clement could hand Tau some minutes against Manchester United on Thursday.
The two sides’ last meeting saw Manchester United winning 4-0 in Bruges in the 2015/16 Champions League playoffs and now Clement appears to have already accepted defeat.
“We need a miracle to beat Manchester United. We have nothing to lose and are looking forward to it. We are going to give our all.
“The Europa League is important for Manchester United, so they will give everything against us. I’m really looking forward to this,” Clement told Uefa.com
After tonight’s match, Tau would be keen to feature in the second leg at Old Trafford next Thursday, having already felt the turf of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and the Parc des Princes this season.
