Van Der Linde lauds defence for most clean sheets

TS Galaxy goalkeeper Wensten Van Der Linde has commended his defence for his current form in the 2020/21 DStv Premiership with the most clean sheets alongside Denis Onyango of Mamelodi Sundowns in four outings.

Both shot-stoppers have a total number of three clean sheets in the top-flight.

The 30-year-old has managed to keep clean sheets in the last three games against Kaizer Chiefs, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and Swallows FC.

Van Der Linde insists that credit should be given to his backline for being strong, mobile and fearless as they have played against some of the best teams in the league.

“Credit must be given to the players that play in front of me. When they talk about clean sheets, they must talk about the whole defence going forward,”  Van Der Linde told the club’s official website.

The Rockets describe him as the person who has been a pillar of strength for them at the back in their last four DStv Premiership games.

The former Mbombela United goalminder added that he will continue to fight for his place in the team and he’s enjoying playing in the top division as compared to the GladAfrica Championship.

“For me, it is more professional in the DSTV Premiership but apart from that, there isn’t much of a difference. I’m not saying GladAfrica is not professional but there is a change. I know that I have to fight for my place in the team because there is no first choice or second choice. If you get an opportunity to play, you must make sure that you keep the jersey,” he added.

When asked about his goals and objectives for the 2020/21 season, Van Der Linde added: “I want to see us winning something. I want to see us fighting for something. That is my biggest goal. I don’t want to see us below number eight on the log.”

He also sent a message of wisdom to their supporters as they are deprived the joy of being at the stadium.

“They must just keep on supporting us. I know they are with us in spirit.  Once they are allowed to come back, we will be even more stronger. We have to keep on working hard,” Van Der Linde concluded.
