Banyana Banyana captain Janine Van Wyk has landed in Scotland to begin her ‘exciting journey’ with her new team, Glasgow City.
Van Wyk signed a one-year deal with the Scottish Champions on the 14th of August, a move hailed by Glasgow as “one of the biggest ever signings in Scottish women’s football”.
Glasgow welcomed Van Wyk on Wednesday ahead of their important UEFA Women’s Champions League Quarterfinals clash against Wolfsburg on 21 August at Anoeta Stadium, San Sebastian.
“Arrived in Scotland after quite a long and exhausting travel experience. Finally, ready to settle and get playing football again and join her team,” said Van Wyk on her Twitter page.
“And suddenly you know it’s time to start a new and exciting journey,” added Van Wyk, who led South Africa to their maiden FIFA Women’s World Cup last year in France and featured in two Olympic Games.
“I will give my absolute best to the club, everything I have, everything I know, I’m willing to learn so much, really excited to work with the team.
“I am looking forward to meeting the fans of Glasgow City and keeping the clean sheets going and making sure that we bring the results that everyone is expecting of us,” she said.
