“Venda is a better place for Zongo”

Away from the city lights and in a conducive environment where one is likely to stay away from trouble, Venda is a perfect place for Masibusane Zongo, this is according to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila CEO Sello Chokoe.

In an exclusive interview with FARPost.co.za, Chokoe said, “Look, I think everybody deserves a chance, and Venda is always a better place for players to live because there are not a lot of things to keep the players busy there except to focus on their career.

“If you check with players like Siphelele Ntshangase and other stars who started their careers here (Venda), now they have become big stars so Zongo’s potential and abilities are known by everyone. We felt it was important to give him a chance to be with us to see if he cannot revive his career.”

TTM signed Zongo on a 6-month deal.

Despite being granted countless opportunities to revive his career with coaches and clubs such as SuperSport United, Platinum Stars, Royal Eagles and Bidvest Wits showing faith in him, the skillful player’s alleged substance and alcohol abuse was his downfall.

However, Chokoe says it is worth taking the risk.

“As to what happened in the past, he has admitted to himself that he had problems and, he is willing to rectify his mistakes, so we are giving him the platform to play football because that’s what he is good at and we are hoping that he will be a changed player and focus only on playing football especially in this part of the world.”

The 29-year-old dribbling wizard was playing for ABC Motsepe League side D’General Fc campaigning, before his move to Limpopo.

“He is fit and definitely ready to play, he was playing in Free State in one of the ABC Motsepe League teams and he’s got the necessary match fitness to hit the road running and the coach also has been helping him in terms of getting him to his full fitness, “added Chokoe.

According to the former Baroka FC coach, TTM needed a smart player in the midfield to create goal scoring opportunities for their strikers.

“We needed a very creative player in midfield because our strikers are not scoring enough goals and that might be because the service was not one of the best so we needed creative players who can help creative more chances for the team in order for our strikers to be able to get those goals.

“Phumelele Bhengu was the leading goal scorer last season but this year he has been struggling so it means he doesn’t have the players around him that can actually help him with the finishing part of his game and scoring goals,” said Chokoe.

Rated as one of the most gifted stars ever to be produced in South Africa, the Mthatha-born, Eastern Cape, player is yet to reach his full potential but football loving fans got to witness his brilliance on the field of play in patches.

Age and time are no longer on his side and the TTM 6-month deal might be his last opportunity to make a return to top-flight football.

Meanwhile his former boss at D’General Fc, Nyakallo Leine known as ‘Ba2Cada said that he aware that this might be Zongo’s last chance to professionally and allowed him to join TTM because he believes the player doesn’t deserve to play in the ABC Motsepe as he is too talented.
