GladAfrica Championship newcomers Venda Football Academy (VFA) registered their first win of the season following a 1-0 win against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila on Saturday.
The Limpopo side made an entry in the first division after buying the Cape Umoya status.
A 0-0 draw in their first match and the win in the Vhembe derby see the side occupying the fifth position after two matches.
Club Chairman Itani Munzhelele insists they are not in the league to add numbers but want to compete like everybody else.
“You can’t be learning, it’s like if you are doing grade 9 and you go to grade 10. So everybody who is in grade 10, whether they failed and are repeating and you who has just passed in, you are all in the same grade so you learn and do the same things,” Munzhelele told FARPost.
“So who says you can’t pass to the next grade if you have just started? For us, we are saying we are here, we want to compete and let’s see what happens.
“Obviously we don’t want to put unnecessary pressure on the technical team. But we are here, we are in the same grade as everybody else. All the 16 teams might not say it but everybody has the same ambitions to be number one,” he said.
VFA will face Free State Stars in their next match on Saturday 11 September at Goble Park.
