We are not title contenders – Truter

Swallows head coach Brandon Truter says they will not get carried away despite their impressive start to the 2020/21 DStv Premiership season.

The rookies are second on the log, tied on 18 points with log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, after eight round of matches.

This follows a 2-1 win against Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday afternoon, making it 18 out of a possible 24 points so far this season.

Truter has played down suggestions that the ‘Dube Birds’ have what it takes to challenge for the title.

“No, no, no title contenders you should speak to Sundowns, Pirates and SuperSport, not us,” said Truter after the match.

“We just keep going and doing the best we can with the next match because the next match is what matters. We are not thinking about title contenders or anything like that, it’s the next match that matters. It’s only when the season ends that we will see where we are.

“We are new into this league, myself and a lot of the players as well. This is where we wanted to be and we are here now but we are not getting carried away with ourselves. We are the small fish in this big pond of sharks, so we are new to it and we respect everybody that is here, but yeah we will keep going,” he added.

Swallows’ next five matches are against Cape Town City (H), Orlando Pirates (A), Baroka (A), Chippa United (H) and SuperSport United (A).
