Amajita head coach Helman Mkhalele says that he can’t fault the players following their elimination from this year’s Under-20 Men’s Cosafa Championship as the boys fought a good fight.
South Africa’s Under-20 men’s national team was eliminated from the tournament after a goalless draw with Mozambique at the Wolfson Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
The draw has resulted in a blow to their Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations (Afcon) dream that is slated for Mauritania next year.
South Africa needed maximum points against the Young Mambas to go top of group A and advance to the semi-finals.
However, luck was not on their side.
In an interview with SAFA.net, Mkhalele expressed his disappointment with the results but also gave credit to his team for the brave fight
“We fought, created a number of chances with some cleared off the goal-line but it was just not meant to be. However, I am proud of the boys and how they fought,” says Mkhalele.
The former Bafana Bafana winger went on to say that it was a lesson learnt and they will try to work on their mistakes moving forward.
“It is a hard lesson but life goes on and we will learn from this experience,’’ the Amajita mentor concludes.
