Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has said that his side is fully aware of what to expect from Golden Arrows ahead of their top-of-the-table DStv Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday afternoon (17:00).
The two sides played out to a 1-1 draw earlier this campaign in December 2020 at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium and Mokwena insists Sundowns know exactly what to do to dominate the game this time around.
League leaders Sundowns, who head into this encounter on the back of their first defeat of the season at the hands of Kaizer Chiefs [2-1 at home over the weekend] will look for an immediate response against a ruthless Arrows side.
“I think Arrows have shown good consistency throughout the season. A good team with a clear playing philosophy, with a clear structure in all positions. We know exactly how the behaviour is and structurally how they set themselves up for the build-up,” said Mokwena.
‘Abafana Bes’thende’ are unbeaten in their last eight matches and played out to a 0-0 draw at Chippa United at the weekend. They have accumulated 21 points from 12 away matches this season, with their only defeat on the road coming against Cape Town City in January.
“A very interesting thing is of the last 12 goals they’ve scored, 90% of them have come between phase of regaining possession and attacking. Out of possession, they can hurt you and in transition, they are extremely dangerous because this is how they killed opponents,” added Mokwena.
“We know the strengths and qualities of this team that we are facing and we know the work that we need to do in order to be able to control Arrows in relation to their strengths and how to influence our playing philosophy on the match so that we can dominate ball and the pitch.”
