Ghanaian captain Andrew Ayew has made a call to his teammates to be mentally strong and resilient.
The winger was speaking to Swansea’s official website about the club’s chances of gaining promotion back to the English Premier League for the 2021/22 season.
Ayew has been the spine of the team this season driving them through difficult challenges and games.
Swansea have managed to stay in the top six of the Championship for most of the season and currently sit in third place on the log standings with only four points separating third and first. Norwich City and Brentford sit in first and second place respectively.
“The next game will be a hard one. We know there are 19 games left and so many points.
“It’s a marathon and we need to keep going to the end. The team who is going to be strong mentally and physically will be able to do something great.
“But with so many games to play, I think it’s important that we only look at the next game. And we will do that for the rest of the season.
“We are doing good, but we won’t get carried away. We must keep working harder because we’ve got 19 games left and there are a lot of points to play for and get before we can think about anything.”
Having been the club’s most reliable source of goals upfront, the 31-year-old failed to find the back of the net for a month before scoring in a decisive 2-0 victory against Norwich City on the 5th of February 2021.
Ayew explained that the goal drought didn’t bother him as long as the team was doing well and getting points.
“It didn’t really bother me that I hadn’t scored for a while because the team has got good results. What’s important is the results, not if I score or not.
“I aim to bring my best to the team in each game – I must do everything I can to help the team and whoever finds the net then that’s great. It’s a real team attitude here and that’s what has served us so well this season.”
In the 26 appearances he has made for the Jacky Army this season, the former Olympique Marseille star has scored nine goals and assisted two more strikes.
